Answer: There are two ways to check the game story synopsis of Heroes of Mana. The first one is during battle, while the other one is during the end of every chapter.

Answer: Press start during the fight and save the game. Then click the story button, which is next to save button. The story synopsis is shown in the other half of the Nintendo DS' screen.

Story Synopsis

Chapter 1:

Night Raid (Prologue)

Ferolia, the kingdom of Beastmen, is reported to be planning a war on humans. Roget and the reconnaissance crew had left Pedda to see if there was any truth to this rumor. But a sudden raid by the Beastmen has sent the party's ship crashing into the woods. To make matters even worse, the ship's carrier, the Splendere, has abandoned them amidst the chaos. Will the crew of five scouts succeed in their mission? Will they even make it out alive...?


Chapter 2:

Forest of Beasts (During Battle)

Roget and the crew had departed from Pedda to scout inside Ferolia on a reconnaissance mission. But sudden raid by the Beastmen has sent the party's ship crashing into the woods. The situation grows even graver as the crew members are separated from one another...

Roget has fended off the initial threat by learning the Nightswan's abilities and summoning ally units. But the crew is soon surrounded by Ferolian troops led by their king, Gauser. The crew is then shocked to hear that Peddan forces have commenced an attack on the Beastmen's kingdom. The Nightswan crew decide to head for Lowenburg in order to uncover the truth, not knowing what awaits them...

Roget and party finally come face to face with the black goddess of doom. In the midst of battle. Cecilia Baxilios and Yurchael meet in their minds. Cecilia says the Sword of Mana can break Anise's mirror. Roget successfully destroys the mirror with the holy sword. Darkness overflows from the goddess. Roget and party cut through and clear the darkness with all their might... And then it is all over.

What is left is a whirlpool of realms. Beyond it, they learn that there are countless other realms where Mana and Anise are fighting.

Roget and the Nightswan crew vow to continue battling Anise as they depart for the realms beyond...

1) The name Esina from Esina's mirror is actually Anise spelled backwards. In the Mana canon, she was once a tree maiden who turned into a witch.

1) How can I acquire new facilities?

Answer: Facilities will be acquired as the story progresses.


2) Is there a way to get high level units right away?

Answer: Nope. They can only be acquired as the story progresses. Everytime a new Mana spirit joined up Roget and the crew, a new altar and units will be unlocked.


3) How do I unlock the Altar of Shadow?

Answer: There is no way you can unlock the Altar of Shadow. The altar is not present in Heroes of Mana, since Zable Fahr, the benevodon of Shadow is believed to be in another realm.

Trivia:

1) It is odd to note that Luna was replaced by Aura as one of the elemental spirits in Legend of Mana.


2) Is the name Aura a mistranslation of the name Luna? Not at all. Since it is not only the names that are different but also their elements. The former is a spirit of gold, while the latter is a spirit of the moon.


3) Rumor has it that Aura was probably added in Legend of Mana just to balance the spirit elements. As a spirit of gold (metal), she is a direct opposite to the wood spirit Dryad.

1) Where can I find the Benevodon of Shadow?

Answer: For some reason, Zable Fahr, the benevodon of shadow is not present in Heroes of Mana.


2) How do I unleash a Mana Spirit's power?

Answer: First, you must select the character. Then click the Magic icon on the upper right corner of the battle screen whenever it is available. The Magic icon is the oval icon below the character's status bar.


Trivia:

1) In the North American version of Secret of Mana, Jinn was given the name, Sylphid.


2) Sylphid is obviously a diminuative term of sylph. A wind spirit that is always depicted as fairies or pixies.


3) The term Jinn is actually taken from middle-eastern folklore. It is another term for genie. Perhaps the most famous example is the "genie of the lamp" mentioned in Aladdin from the Arabian Nights' tales.

1) Where can I find the battle skills and standby skills of the main characters?

Answer: In the equipment menu, hover and click the stylus on the purple icon that has a star-like design for the battle skill. To check the standby skill, on the other hand, just click the icon below it.


2) Is there a character who has no battle skill or standby skill?

Answer: Roget is the only character who has no standby skill. He has a battle skill nontheless.


Trivia:

1) Did you know that whips and hammers are two of the most recurring weapons in the Mana series? Surprisingly, there are no main characters who uses these weapons.


2) The name Loki is probably taken from a deity in Norse mythology. He is the Aesir god of mischief.


3) In Japan, the Mana series is popularly known as Seiken Densetsu, which literally means the "Legendary Sacred Sword."
