Suikoden III
Hugo
Trivia:
Hugo is the son of the chief of Karaya Clan, Lucia. Her mother was a participant of the Dunan Unification War under the flagship of Highland Kingdom. Just after the war ended, she returned to Grassland and shortly gave birth to Hugo. The boy grew up in the loving guidance of the villagers like Luce, Jimba and Beecham.
When Hugo was about four years old, he raised a wandering griffon that subsequently became his closest friend. As he grew older, Sgt. Joe became his mentor and taught him to be a real warrior. Together with his best friend Lulu, they spent much of their time living a carefree life until the Second Fire Bringer War broke out.
For a very short time, Hugo transformed into a more matured person due to the successive unfortunate events he faced that primarily caused by the war. The destruction of their village, the death of Lulu and the plight of the Karayans had made a man out of his tender age. Determined to avenge his best friend and his dream to save Grassland, Hugo decided to seek the help of the legendary figure who once gathered the clans to deflect the Harmonian invasion, the Flame Champion.
Hugo's investigation of the Flame Champion's whereabouts led him and his comrades to Chisha Village. In there, he met Sana who was actually no other than the Flame Champion's wife. Hugo's hope to save the Grassland was torn after he found out that the man of legends was already dead for quite some time. Nevertheless, his determination pushed Hugo to continue his quest and accepted the burden to be hailed as the Flame Champion's successor.
With the True Fire Rune in his hand, Hugo led the newly formed Fire Bringers. It was named after the former Flame Champion's army who fought on his side some 50 years ago. Surprisingly, it was composed of former allies and enemies alike, who gathered together under one banner just to stop the real threat in the land, the Destroyers.
According to one Karayan, Hugo has the reputation of being the best rider of the village. His greatest strength is his speed just like his mount Fubar. When they fight together, they can perform a spectacular unite attack. Hugo's greatest frustration is his height. He's a bit short for a Karayan boy of his age. Nevertheless, it is not an issue at all to Belle, who is crazily in love with him.
After the Second Fire Bringer War ended, Hugo returned to Grassland to help rebuild the Karaya Village. Eventually, he succeeded his mother as the new chief representing the Karaya Clan.
