Answer: The answer varies depending on what stat boost does it posseses. Unlike armor, shields and helmets, accessories are not limited to increase a character's defense only. It may also affect either one or more of the other attributes: wisdom, agility and attack.


2) What accessory has the highest wisdom boost?

Answer: The Goddess Ring. It gives 20 wisdom to stat and increases the resistance of the wearer against Fuddle, Snooze and Paralysis. Aside from that, it also recovers the MP while walking in fields and dungeons.


3) What accessory has the highest agility boost?
Answer: The Meteorite Ring.
Although it has no other known boosting effects, yet it increases one's agility by 50 points.


4) What accessory has the highest attack boost?

Answer: The Argon Ring. It doesn't only increases the wearer's attack by 20 but also its agility by another 20 points.


5) What accessory has the highest defense boost?

Answer: There are three accessories that shares a defense boost of 15 points. These are the Catholicon Ring, Ruby of Protection and the Recovery Ring. Unlike the other two, however, the Ruby of Protection does not offer any other boosting effects such as the HP recovery of the Recovery Ring and the resistance boost of the Catholicon Ring.

4) Aside from Hades' Helm, are there more helmets that are cursed?

Answer: Yes. There is another one, the Skull Helm. It reduces the physical damage to zero, which renders the wearer unable to inflict damage effectively. Avoid using this helm as much as possible.

1) How do I remove the status from cursed items?

Answer: To remove the curse from an equipment one must use a Saint's Ashes. Be careful though, this item is valuable but very limited. There are more cursed items in the game than Saint's Ashes that one can collect.


2) What is the strongest shield available in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King?

Answer: Although its selling price is surprisingly low if compared to others, but Metal King Shield is still the sturdiest shield out there. It boost the wearer's defense by 65 while reduces the damage received from certain spells by 30.


3) What is the disadvantages of cursed items such as Ruinous Shield and Thanatos' Shield?

Answer: The curse status varies for each items. Some increases the damage inflicted on the wearer, while others prevent the wearer from taking an action in a turn, etc.


4) Is it worthy to sacrifice my Goddess Shield to turn it into Thanatos' Shield in Alchemy Pot transmutation?

Answer: No. Both items have the same defense boost of 55, but the Goddess Shield is a purified item. It has no adverse effects on its wearer. Thanatos' Shield, on the other hand, disables the character to take action in every first turn in battles.


5) Is the Ruinous Shield's defensive boosts worth it all even though it is cursed? Should I still equip it?

Answer: The Ruinous Shield should only be used on situational basis. This equipment may boosts one's defense by 50 but it will also augment the spell damage casted against the wearer. In other words, you are sacrificing magic defense in exchange for physical defense. It is advisable to equip it only on fields and dungeons where there are no monsters that can cast Bang, Crack, Frizz, Sizz and Woosh type spells.

1) There are several shields in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King that can be obtained through Alchemy Pot transmutation. One can easily understand why Templar's Shield can be formed through the combination of Iron Shield and Templar's Uniform. There's no big question about its recipe. But why is a Cured Cheese becomes an essential ingredient in crafting a Power Shield!?


2) Did you know that the selling price of a defensive gear is not directly proportional to the defensive stats it offers? For example, a medium level shield like Power Shield gives 9000G when sold. While the strongest shield, the Metal King Shield, will only give you 5000G.

1) Why I can't mix 3 ingredients in Alchemy Pot for a certain recipe?

Answer: From the beginning, you can only have the option to combine 2 ingredients. Using 3 ingredients is unlocked much later in the course of the adventure.


2) How many possible combinations can be crafted in Alchemy Pot?

Answer: Although this guide features 166 combinations, yet there are few more possible combinations that are not listed below.


3) How much time does a recipe takes to be crafted?

Answer: The amount of time spent for an item to be crafted varies depending on its value. Common items don't take much time, while others with higher value or powerful stats will most likely take a while before they can be finished.


4) Is there a way to hasten the time spent for crafting recipes?

Answer: Yes. All you need to do is to walk around towns, fields or dungeons. The actual time counted for an item to form is not about the time spent in the game, but how much steps your characters made by walking.


5) How about riding on ship or Sabrecat? Do they hasten the time for crafting recipes?

Answer: Unfortunately, riding on ship or Sabrecat does not count as time spent for walking. Thus, the recipe will not form to its desired result as expected.


6) Why is it my crafted item from Alchemy Pot is cursed?

Answer: Items such as Imp Knife, Fallen Angel Rapier and Thanatos' Shield are sometimes cursed when crafted. This usually happens if one of the essential ingredients of a particular item is the Devil's Tail.


7) How do I remove the status of a cursed item?

Answer: To remove the curse from an item, one must use Saint's Ashes for purification.


8) Do I have to purify every cursed item crafted from Alchemy Pot?

Answer: No. Cursed items can only be purified by Saint's Ashes, but there's not much of this ingredient in the game. So use it only on items which worth every bit of its value.

2) It doesn't takes a lot of money to accumulate ingredients for crafting cheese in Alchemy Pot. So making cheese and selling them on shops can make you a fortune.
